The theme of this year’s World Health Day is “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere” and here in The Sreepur Village we make sure that the 200 mothers and over 500 children, in our care, are entitled to quality health services. Our mothers join us from different remote areas of the country, they are from poverty-stricken families and more than often have not been able to obtain the minimum health facilities which, in turn, affects the health of the entire family.

On Sunday, The Sreepur Village, celebrated the 48th Independence Day by participating in different programmes organised by the Sreepur Village School.

As a first phase of the programme, the children of the Sreepur Village School celebrated the free spirit of the Bangladeshi Independence day with great fervour and joy. In excited anticipation, they gathered in the school grounds for an assembly while the national flag was hoisted by Pat and Imran (our two directors) and the melody of the national anthem of Bangladesh played in the background.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2018, the mothers’ association of the Sreepur Village arranged a cultural programme and led a discussion which focussed on this year’s theme of #PressforProgress. It was an opportunity for the Sreepur mothers to celebrate womanhood in all its form and during the two-hour long discussion, the mothers primarily discussed the importance of self-reliance, training and development, they also thanked The Sreepur Village for supporting them and their children.

Fifth Grade Exams

Primary Education Completion (PEC) tests have begun in Bangladesh and fourteen fifth grade students from the Sreepur Village will be taking these exams this year.  Prior to this, fifth grade students would take the Primary Education Certificate examination.

For the last few days our children, their mothers and the teachers have been heavily engaged in preparations for their forthcoming exams. In the morning, before they left the village for the exam centre, we took a photo of them. They were a little nervous, however, at the assembly hall all the children, teachers and staff wished them good luck and GOOD LUCK from all of us too.

This morning we had a very early breakfast then drove to Shah Pori Diip, which is where the refugees come after they arrive in Bangladesh. Most of them have to barter jewellery for the fare or borrow money to pay to get to the mainland. It is tragic to see families with many young children, and all their belongings in just a few rice sacks. One young girl was so traumatised she couldn't speak or communicate in any way.
