Night Shelter and SUCCESS
We are delighted to share with you that, after 19 months, we have re-opened up our Girl’s Night Shelter and resumed our SUCCESS project: Slum and Urban Community Children Education Schooling Support.
National Eye Health Week
Nine year old Fahad was suffering from poor vision, headaches as well as many other problems in his eyes. After Fahad and his mother arrived to live in the Sreepur Village and under the supervision of a clinic team, Fahad was able to receive treatment to cure his visual impairment.
World Immunisation Week, 2019
To kick-start World Immunisation Week, did you know it costs £5 to vaccinate a child or mother against MMR in The Sreepur Village, Bangladesh?
Nutrition and Hydration Week 2019
Following a recent storm in Bangladesh, many of the crops that were due to be harvested this month in The Sreepur Village have been destroyed. We are now looking to raise £5000 to cover the cost of these lost crops and appeal to you, during Nutrition Week, to help us raise the necessary funds so that we can not only grow more crops but help to grow minds too - feeding more families to a healthier future.
World Breast Feeding Week (Aug 1-7)
In 2018, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) issued a new 10 point guidance to further raise awareness on the benefits of early breastfeeding. According to research, breastfeeding babies for the first two years would annually save the lives of more than 8,20,000 children under the age five.
National Gardening Week
As this week is National Gardening Week, The Sreepur Village would like to highlight the training they offer so that over 200 mothers, in the future, can live self-sufficiently, confidently knowing that their children will not starve.
For the three meals a day that The Sreepur Village provides, a small piece of farm land in the village has been partitioned into different sections for growing vegetables, 60% of which is dedicated to feeding our mothers and children fresh vegetables and, sometimes, salad.
World Health Day
The theme of this year’s World Health Day is “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere” and here in The Sreepur Village we make sure that the 200 mothers and over 500 children, in our care, are entitled to quality health services. Our mothers join us from different remote areas of the country, they are from poverty-stricken families and more than often have not been able to obtain the minimum health facilities which, in turn, affects the health of the entire family.
International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
The contribution of sport to education, human development, healthy lifestyles and a peaceful world is of utmost importance and here in The Sreepur Village, we commit ourselves to the development of our children through various sports and physical exercises.
In the Sreepur Village school, we provide a specialised sports instructor who teaches the children a variety of sports every day. Jesmin has a degree in Physical Education and has experience in children’s sports and physical exercise.
My Trip to Bangladesh, by Emma our UK Fundraiser
I oversee fundraising in the UK for The Sreepur Village so before my trip I was feeling fairly confident of what to expect and see in the heart of Bangladesh or so I thought I did. What I didn’t expect to see was over 700 smiling faces, children content to play with just a leaf and mothers willing to do the smallest of jobs so that they could have the biggest results, like feed their families.
The Sreepur Village Clinic
The Sreepur Village Clinic plays a vital role in each and every beneficiary’s health. The clinic, open 24/7, works hard in assessing and treating the many health problems that arise. Mothers and children, upon admission to the village, go to the clinic for routine health checks and whether their symptoms are minor or major the care, that the clinic delivers, is second-to-none.
Celebrating International Literacy Day
The environment in which women can acquire and retain literacy skills is shaped by various forms of social, economic and religious restrictions and for poverty-stricken women in rural Bangladesh, the opportunity to study is simply not an option. Instead many women stay at home spending most of their lives as housewives. which can create conditions where literacy skills can be lost which in turn leads to a new form of vulnerability. Our mothers are the best example of this vulnerability.
The Sreepur Village believes in addressing women's literacy to improve confidence and the quality of lives. This helps to reduce poverty, increases work opportunities and in doing so improves the mother and child’s health and well-being.
