International Mother Language Day

February 26, 2018

Last week was International Mother Language Day, a celebration of cultural and linguistic diversity and the protection of all mother languages spoken throughout the world.

The sacrifice of the language heroes, 66 years ago today, is being remembered by all the mothers, children and staff of The Sreepur Village.

At the crack of dawn, everyone walked bare foot to lay wreaths at the alter of the Shaheed Minar (a memorial monument) and paid their respects to the language martyrs of 1952.
The daylong programme started with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by a cultural programme, a drawing competition and a poetry recitation.

It was truly a day to remember.
