National Mourning Day

August 15, 2017

People from all walks of life of Bangladesh, observed the National Mourning Day today with due respect and solemnity, marking the 42nd death anniversary of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh. Every year, the country observes the National Mourning Day on August 15. On this day in 1975, the Father of the Nation along with most of his family members was assassinated.
The day was also observed in Sreepur Village with appropriate honour. To mark the mourning day and in order to sensitise the little minds of the value of the Mujib’s contribution to the country, a painting competition was held at the Sreepur School. In the morning they gathered in the school ground where the assembly took place and the national flag is hoisted by one of our leader mothers and a child as a first phase of the programme, as the national anthem of Bangladesh being played. The national flags are lowered to half-mast at school.
Our entire school children attended the programme, including the pre-primary children. They did some splendid works of art. The paintings of Bangabandhu, the liberation war and natural beauty of the country drew a huge audience. In the afternoon, the children were shown a film on liberation war.
The second part of the programme featured a discussion and prize giving ceremony. The discussion highlighted the contribution of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to our liberation war and independence. Later the discussion, school teachers awarded the prizes to the winners.
