World Breastfeeding Week
As part of World Breastfeeding Week, The Sreepur Village would like to share with you the importance of breastfeeding for some of the impoverished mothers that are sheltered and cared for in their village in rural Bangladesh.
It is said that breastfeeding is more than just food for a baby. When you hold your baby close during breastfeeding, your baby can feel, smell and see you, all of which helps to build a close and loving bond between a mother and her child.
Breastfeeding is important for both the mother and child. It is natural, safe and clean and can reduce the risk of infection as well as aid mental and physical growth.
At The Sreepur village we promote breastfeeding as a natural way to feed, grow and nurture children.
Mr.Wazed Ali Pramanik, our public health coordinator, says, “we provide extra care for babies, we are always encouraging our mothers to give their baby this natural milk. Sometimes we arrange an awareness workshop for the importance of breastfeeding, as we think it is very helpful for both mother and child. We understand and appreciate that sometimes the mothers cannot feed their child because of their health conditions. So, the public health department endeavours to help the mothers in every which way they can. We always advise that breast milk contains all the nutrients needed for the first six months of a child’s life.
Popi, 24 Years old and one of our beneficiary mothers says, “I always choose to feed my baby because I know it is very helpful for the development of my baby and my health too.
Currently, at The Sreepur Village two mothers are breastfeeding babies who are under six months of age, and 22 mothers are supplementing their breastfeeding with additional food like eggs, rice and fruits.
The Sreepur village continues to put an emphasis on the importance of breastfeeding and will always encourage new mothers to try and breastfeed. The Sreepur Village believes in giving everyone a chance and by providing the right information and reassurance, we hope many more mothers will feel empowered to try breastfeeding in the future.
