National Mourning Day - August 15, 2018

August 17, 2018

The 15th August is a significant day in Bangladesh as it is also National Mourning Day. In the Sreepur Village, the day's activities commenced with the students performing poetry and then gifts were distributed amongst all the children.
It was on this day in 1975, that army officers assassinated Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, as well as most of his family members. This day is about paying respect to the great leader and this was also a good opportunity for senior members of the Sreepur Village management team to speak about the importance of national mourning day and explain how we should be very proud of our freedom and never take it for granted.

To finish the day, a ceremony called Milad, which means time of birth, was performed in celebration of the birthday of the prophet Mohammed.
