At The Sreepur Village we enjoy celebrating all the religious festivals for the children and mothers so that they can live in a joyous environment. A few days back, The Sreepur Village observed Diwali Utsob (Festivals of Lights) with countless fervour. All of the children and mothers attended the festival and thoroughly enjoyed. On that day, people decorate their homes with small clay lamps filled with oil, to signify the victory and ascendancy of “good over evil.”
In the afternoon, our resident artist Milon, with help of our children, decorated the underneath of the big water tank with paintings. Then the mothers and children decorated the tank with clay lamps filled with oil, candles and earthen pots. In the afternoon, we also offered special snacks for the mothers and children. The festivities started during the evening with the performance of our girls. They danced and our mothers sung the songs. The main attraction of the event was lighting the diyas and candles. Some of the important areas of the campus (Pat’s house, admin office and main gate) were illuminated by hundreds of diyas and candles.
Diwali is an extraordinary festival that comes to lighten up the entirety of mankind. Through its lamps Diwali tries to resemble the inner light or consciousness of human beings, so that they always keep illuminating their inner selves by protesting against evil and triumphing over it.
Out of the blue, at the tender age of 13, Chia found herself sitting on a bridal stage, about to marry a man who was 35 years old. Her parents had arranged the match, finding the man from their nearby locality in Bhairab.
He was a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) businessman who occasionally sold vegetables and fruits on the street. Chia's aspirations and youthful dreams were abruptly interrupted by this sudden marriage. Instead of books, she found herself with kitchen utensils in her hands. She went from feeling like a princess to becoming a servant overnight.
Sumi's journey is a testament to her resilience and determination to create a better life for herself and her child. Her success serves as an inspiration to all those facing adversity, reminding us of the transformative power of support, training, and the opportunity to rebuild one's life.
