Falguni is the daughter of Mahjadi, an unmarried mother from a northern district of Bangladesh. She was abused repeatedly for two years by her brother-in-law and when she became pregnant her brother-in-law denied any involvement. Mahjadi has driven away from her family and had been taking shelter in a non-government organisation.
A few weeks ago Mahjadi gave birth to Falguni and earlier last week they came to the village after being referred by a local NGO. Now both mother and child are doing really well and we are hoping they will be spending some time with us
We will give you more news on their progress over the coming weeks.
Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science and we are delighted to ask The Lady Tunnicliffe, PHD, BSc., FRSB, FLS why this day is so important.
