Meet the people behind Sreepur Village
Staff
Our Bangladeshi management team is headed up by Khadija Sultana, our Executive Director, pictured above at her desk. She works closely with Pat Kerr, trustee and Overseas Director, in making day to day decisions. Shishu Polli Plus has 9 main sections:
- Administration and Finance
- Child and Mother Care
- Clinic
- School
- Fostering and Community Development
- Psychosocial Unit and Rehabilitation
- Skill and Business Development
- Sreepur Village Trade
- Dhaka Visitor’s Centre
In total we have 110 salaried staff in Bangladesh.
Women
We currently have 135 women and their children living with us. Each mother stays up to 5 years following an agreed rehabilitation programme. We pay them a small allowance each month plus a compulsory savings scheme where we put money in a bank account so that they have funds when they leave. All of the women who come to us have been abused in some way, and we offer group and individual counselling to bolster their self esteem and confidence.
Children
Shishu Polli Plus is a happy and relaxed place for the children. They have plenty of friends, nourishing food, education and lots of opportunity for play. All of them have suffered severe deprivation before coming to us, and it is a joy to see them running round, laughing and playing. There is always a child coming to hold your hand, sing you a song, or show you a dance.
UK staff and sponsors
Our patron is Jim Fitzpatrick MP.
The office is run from the third bedroom of the Silvester household so there are few overheads enabling 90p in each pound to go directly to Sreepur. Trisha Silvester has been chair of the charity since she founded it in the UK in 1978. Maureen Fox has been the Administrator since 1993, and she handles all correspondence with the UK donors.
We have a donor base of over 1300 people in the UK, many of whom have supported us for over 20 years.
