Peara and familyCase Study:

Peara

One of the successful beneficiary mothers

Md. Abdul Kadir, a saw mill worker had three children including Peara. Md Kadir remarried when his first wife died. Peara was only five years old when she lost her mother and her stepmother treated her badly in many ways. Her father arranged a marriage for Peara when she was 14 years old.

However, Peara’s husband abandoned her when she was 7 months pregnant as her father failed to pay the agreed dowry. Finding no alternative, she was admitted to Families for Children on 1st of January 1980. She gave birth to a daughter and lived at FFC in Dhaka as one of our beneficiaries. Peara proved to be a loving, intelligent and responsible part of FFC and she became a leader who gradually assumed responsibility for managing a group of mothers. She was an integral part of the team who moved from Indira Road, Dhaka to Sreepur in 1989.

In 1990 Piara’s father arranged a second marriage for her, but her second husband was a drug addict and died of liver cancer in 1993 when her second child was 18 months old. She returned to Shishu Polli Plus and has lived with us ever since. After completion of junior school Peara’s children left SPP and they are now independent and married and Peara has one grandchild.

Peara works in our Child and Mother Care section and was promoted to a Program Organizer in 2006. She is the only Programme Organiser without a degree but she took the early literacy courses very seriously and is very bright. She is in charge of the Baby House which is a very busy and responsible post. She has lived with us for nearly 30 years and was given a long service award at the 20th anniversary celebrations in February 2009.

Peara is a loving and valuable member of our management team. Because of her length of service, she knows all of the children and their histories, and we rely on her greatly. She says that she loves her work at Shishu Polli Plus and intends to stay with us for the rest of her working life. Her son and daughter and grandchild sometimes come and visit us on holidays and special occasions.
