Families for Children originally rented the old British Immigration Office, and had about 100 children in their care in the late 1970’s. These children had been brought by their mothers who were unable to support them, or they had been found abandoned on the streets. There were lots of babies and toddlers, and the building was filled with crying, laughing and mischief. A school was run in makeshift sheds in the grounds.
